Shortly after the eruption, a unique public/private partnership was formed to create a visitor center combining interactive exhibits, multi-media presentations, and sweeping views of Mount Saint Helens and the Toutle River avalanche debris flow. Extensive use of massive, salvaged timbers and sheltering roof overhangs create a rugged lodge character appropriate to this impressive and devastated site.
